To start this short marathon there is nothing better than starting with the basics.

Let's register a domain!

I imagine you have something in mind... but first, let's get down to the basics.

What is a domain for?

A domain is good for several things, the main of which is a humanly understandable address that helps people and other computer services to get an answer to something, simple as that,,,

In other words, it's to help and personalize the way in which they will arrive on your site, or for you to send that email with a different @ from the free ones,, instead of memorizing an IP to be able to access a site or service, you use name resolution to make it easier,,, e.g. how did you get here? walking? memorizing the server IP of this site? You arrived because you typed

Of course there's a much more technical explanation than that, but if you've made it this far you probably don't want to know.

Where do I register a domain?

Cool, I already understand what it's for and I really want to have a domain,, but how to do it?

The first thing is to know if you want a domain with the ending .br or not, this makes a big difference.

Domains ending in .br are managed by Registro.br (registro.br), which is the government entity responsible for registering (domain name registration system, IP, traffic routes, etc.)

Each country has the right to register the end with ICANN and has its due legal processes that must be followed to register a domain with a different ending, such as .ca (Canada) .uk (England)

For .com domains, there are some entities approved by the American Chamber of Commerce to provide this type of service, e.g. Godaddy, Domain.com, etc.,

In Brazil, prices are fixed regardless of the domain. (just out of curiosity on 09/22 the price is R$40/year)

Outside here, then the price varies greatly depending on how noble the domain is, ranging from a few dollars to thousands or millions of dollars)

To be simple, let's use Registro.br, simple, national and can be paid with a credit card.

How do I register a domain?

Now that we know where to register a domain, let's move on to the part of how to register a domain.

The registration of a domain can be done by an individual or legal entity, for most .br domains, except .org.br, .ong.br, pure .br, .b.br,, (there is a list of those that you can or cannot register) is a very simple process.

To start, you need to create an Entity (basically register an account), this account will manage billing information, DNS service, and be the contact if the Registro.br staff has to talk to you.

You will be able to delegate parts of the domain administration to other Entities, for example, charging a specific person to pay the bill, technician, another person responsible for administering the DNS.

Attention: If you ask someone for help, ask them to use your data to create the account and register the domain, because in Brazil the exchange of domain holding entities is extremely bureaucratic!

Creating the account:

To create the account click on “ACCESS ACCOUNT”

It goes to an access screen for an existing account, looks further down and has a link to “CREATE ACCOUNT”

A form will appear to be completed, obviously fill it out carefully and pay close attention to the email and password you are going to use.

After clicking on “CREATE ACCOUNT” you will receive an email to activate your account. Notice that at no time did you choose a user you just entered the password, the user account is generated by the Registro.br system.

ATTENTION!!! DON'T FORGET THIS USERNAME AND PASSWORD!!! It is important to register your domain and pay the annual fee!!!

Registering a Domain

Registering a domain is not complicated.

After you created your account and entered the Registro.br system

Now it's basically a matter of knowing if your creativity is good and if you were lucky enough to be the first person to think of the name you want.

Click on “REGISTER”

That same home screen of their website will appear, where you will now search for the domain you want to register.

If the domain you want already has an owner, it will appear like this:

It's no use crying,,, the first to arrive is the first to serve...

If you find a domain that interests you and that is available, it will appear like this:

You can register as many domains as you like, it all depends on your credit card limit.

Clicking on “REGISTER” will take you to a second one where you will fill in some information again, with the social security number or tax number of the person who will own this domain. On the next screen, it will provide some information about the registration of the person you provided the information on the previous screen, and at the bottom there is the box to read and accept the contract items and click on “REGISTER”

At that moment the system will perform some checks on the domain registration, wait for an email with a link to click and execute the payment. The screen is very simple and practical, there's nothing to go wrong,, in theory,,,, pay attention not to do crap!!!

It's over

That's basically it, you created an account on Registro.br and registered your first domain, congratulations!!!

In the next post we will host your domain on a DNS server to be able to start using it for real, because at the moment it is of no use...
